The wolf is one of four obtainable pets. The wolf gains levels like you do, but only gets experience if it participates in a fight, no matter if it attacks or stays idle. The wolf cannot die. If it is killed during a battle, it will only receive the "near-death" status and will not be able to participate in any battles, hunts or searches until you treat its wounds or you let it cure by itself, although this can take several days.

Details

The wolf is one of four obtainable pets. The wolf gains levels like you do, but only gets experience if it participates in a fight, no matter if it attacks or stays idle. The wolf cannot die. If it is killed during a battle, it will only receive the "near-death" status and will not be able to participate in any battles, hunts or searches until you treat its wounds or you let it cure by itself, although this can take several days.

Feeding

The wolf pet needs to be fed to fill up its internal hunger meter (the player can only see qualitative assessment of the hunger meter). If the wolf gets too hungry, it will not be able to perform any actions until it is fed. Like any other pets, the hunger meter only goes down if the pet is curing itself from wound, participating in a battle, or performing commands. As a consequence, if a pet is at full health and the player never includes it in battles or never sends it off to perform tasks, the pet will not need to be fed.

The wolf can feed off any type of meat (including radiated meat) and some special dishes.

Like any other pet, it can be commanded by the player.

Obtaining

The wolf can be obtained in two ways:

Experience

Experience can be obtained in combat or by having it complete commands. Whenever the wolf takes part in a combat, the total experience will be divided evenly between you and the wolf (and any other pet you bring), as long as the battle is won.

When defeated, enemies give a fixed amount of experience based on their kind. For example, rats give 5 exp. each and 10 exp. each if they are radioactive. Lynxes and snakes give 10 each, 15 if the lynx is radioactive, etc. Keep this in mind when wanting to level up the wolf so you kill the most enemies while using the least resources. The wolf can one-shot a snake by the time it is level 35. Paired with counter-attack, it can kill 2 snakes in a turn.

Commands

The wolf has a total of 4 commands. The same command cannot be spammed as right after it has been used, it requires a cooldown.

Name Level Effect Time taken Cooldown time Experience
Hunt 10 Sends the wolf into a hunt.

The wolf can return with a random

carcass or without any prey.

24 hours 24 hours +5 (or 10 if the wolf ate what it caught)
Track 30 Tracks a specific enemy. 1 hour 4 hours +10
Search

For Components

60 Sends the wolf to search for components.

The wolf can return with random

components or without anything.

24 hours 24 hours 0
Search for ammo 70 Sends the wolf to search for ammo 24 hours 24 hours +10

The results of the hunt and search commands are affected by the wolf's level.

If the command "track" gets interrupted (like by an attack) during the 1 hour it takes to "find" the target, that command use is lost and the command cannot be used again until the 4-hour cooldown is up.

Perks

Similar to player perks, it gives the wolf advantages and new attacks on the fighting terrain. The following table lists the wolf’s perks (excluding commands that the wolf learned, which is already included above):

Name Level Effect Max damage
Attack 1 Basic bite attack. Damage scales based on level. 60-180
Counterattack 15 Allows the wolf to counter after it's been attacked

Once per turn.

60-180
Taunt 20 Makes the taunt opponent attack only the wolf.

Deals little damage. Lasts 2 turns, 3 turn cooldown

0-15
Free Attack 40 Allows the wolf to attack an enemy who has

begun moving. Once per turn.

60-180
Immobilization 50 A paralyzing bite that makes the opponent unable

to move for 2 turns. Damage 10-51 at level 65

15-75
Movement Range 55 Increase movement range by 1.
Dodge Chance 65 Increases dodge chance by 25%.
Extra Move 75 Allows the wolf to move twice in the same turn

Trivia

  • After sending the wolf to hunt, it is possible that it will eat the prey instead of delivering it to you.
  • The ability to hunt enemies was re-added into the game in version 650, as the "Track" command.
  • Players might explain how wolf runs away when injured during combat, such as when you can see the escaping icon on your pet, even though your pets do not retreat like you or a boosting player.
