Avoid using salt to cook [[dried fish]] and [[dried meat]] until late game. Salt is precious and should not be wasted on food that requires lots of it, when it's possible to hunt and cook meat without it, or pick recipes with less salt.

While not a rare item to find, salt quantities are often very small, thus making it hard to accumulate. It is advised to avoid using salt for cooking heavy salt recipes.
In order to make a dugout or wooden house a lot of bone glue is needed (is cheaper to craft bone glue out of salt than to find or trade for insulating tape, insulating tape should be kept to repair vehicles and the stuff that only can be repaired with tape and not bone glue).

Details

Salt is a common household food condiment used for adding taste to food. In the post-nuclear wasteland, salt is used for the same purpose but more importantly as a crafting item.
